You know we’re hitting bottom when brothels are losing business…

Posted by VZLNO in June 29th 2008

This piece by CNN is absolutely hillarious. Here are some excerpts…

According to the article:

Nevada brothels that cater to long-haul truckers are offering gas cards and other promotions after seeing business decline as much as 25 percent from a year ago, industry officials said.

Industry officials? I thought that this is illegal all states (of course, except NV where this news article is focused on). I never thought of this as an industry and much less that they would have officials. Can you imagine your local pimp giving these statements to the media?

Here is another jewel:

Geoffrey Arnold, president of the Nevada Brothel Owners’ Association, said truckers account for up to 75 percent of business at the state’s rural brothels along Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 95.

There is a Brothel Owners Association? Aren’t us IT guys just dumb? We don’t even have a union…

The entrepreneurial ingenuity knows no bounds… see below.

In response to a 5 percent drop in business, the Shady Lady Ranch along U.S. 95 about 150 miles north of Las Vegas plans to offer $50 gas cards to clients who spend $300 and $100 gas cards to those who spend $500.

So, if I get my math right, if I spend $300 in the Shady Lady Ranch, I will get a $50 gas card. I have a regular sized car so $50 is a tank full. I don’t think that those $50 or even $100 gas cards will entice too many truckers that spend hundreds of dollars to fill up a tank. Just a humble opinion.

This guy should be a Chief Marketing Officer for a Fortune 100 company. Again, entrepreneurial ingenuity knows no bounds…

Under a promotion under way at the Moonlite BunnyRanch near Carson City, the first 100 customers who arrive with government stimulus checks receive twice the services for the same regular price.

“We’re calling it double your stimulus,” said BunnyRanch owner Dennis Hof. “The brothel industry is having to get more creative just like all consumer products in America. Everybody has got to deal, and we’re doing the same thing.”

“Double your stimulus”? I don’t think that this type of expenditure is precisely what the government had in mind when they designed the plan. But, then again, I have seen weirder things.

Hardest hit are independent truckers, who must pay for their own fuel, said George Flint, a lobbyist for the brothel owners’ association.

There is a lobbyist for the brothel owners association? Lobbying should be illegal. The comment above is one of the millions of reasons why.

As an MBA graduate would say “this is a good business plan”. See below…

“The customers won’t be spending as much, but the brothels will still be there,” he said. “After food, the most important activity, at least for men, is sex. Sex is not going away.”

Last week in South Beach (Miami Beach, FL) an undercover police officer uncovered a mobile brothel set up on SUV Limo.

WOW…

I just found this post that is very ingenious. It could also be considered infantile, bit extremely ingenious nonetheless. This kid has been able to modify a USB flash drive to be connected to his phone jack (wall). Then, he modified the USB cable to connect to the phone jack on one end and USB on his laptop. Here is the link. Don’t get your hopes up, I am not publicizing anything illegal.

Viaje a Venezuela de los 60’s, 70’s, 80’s y 90’s - Los comerciales

Posted by VZLNO in May 8th 2008

Posted by VZLNO in May 7th 2008

Is it appropriate for a teacher to be moonlighting on a bikini charter boat?
Si 53.24% 6484
No 16.94% 2063
No me importa 29.82% 3631

Why Can’t I Compete? Clearing the Noncompete Haze - eWeek article By Deborah Perelman

Posted by VZLNO in November 23rd 2007

I found this very interesting article about non-compete agreements that many if not all IT employees has had to sign at one point or another. Below is the e-Week article. To see the original article and its comments, please click here.

Why Can’t I Compete? Clearing the Noncompete Haze
DATE: 16-NOV-2007
By Deborah Perelman

Noncompete agreements are rampant in the tech industry and most workers have no choice but to sign them, but are they worth getting worked up over? The experts say no.

A technology professional working at a large company was recently asked to sign a noncompete contract and confidentiality agreement that gave the company a royalty-free license to any “invention” he created while working there and up to six months after leaving the company. The employee, who declined to offer his name or the company in question, was worried about signing his creative freedom and future competitiveness away and called out to the Slashdot community for advice.

Responses ranged from a sarcastic “good luck fighting it” to “don’t worry, it’s not enforceable” and, from the employee himself, “obviously, it’s time for a new job,” each underscoring the hazy area noncompete clauses occupy in modern workplaces.

Employees hate them, employers consider them necessary, and although they are almost never brought to court—and even when they are, are rarely enforceable—they strike enough fear in the heart of workers that many would rather stay put than risk being sued for violation of the contract’s term, say employment lawyers. …..Click here to read more

El cambio de hora en Venezuela.

Posted by VZLNO in October 20th 2007
